
Dr. Nicholas specializes in the management of medical retinal diseases, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein and artery occlusions, central serous chorioretinopathy, and retinal tears. He also frequently treats patients with intraocular inflammation (uveitis), cataracts, and glaucoma. Dr. Nicholas prides himself on providing thorough, comprehensive care to each his patients, and on helping his patients to fully understand their conditions and treatments.
Dr. Nicholas completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Rochester Flaum Eye Institute, followed by a fellowship in medical retina at the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute. He joined Eye Disease Consultants in 2021. Before ophthalmology, Dr. Nicholas attended Yale College, where he majored in physics. He attended medical school at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, where he was enrolled in the Medical Scientist Training Program, and earned both his MD and PhD degrees. His PhD research focused on novel microscope development and biophysical analysis of dynein, a “molecular motor” protein that transports substances within living cells. He is the author of numerous scientific publications.
Dr. Nicholas is on the faculty at Hartford Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. He operates at Hartford Hospital, Harford Hospital Eye Surgery Center (Newington), and Bloomfield Ambulatory Surgical Center. In his spare time, Dr. Nicholas enjoys woodworking, playing guitar, and outdoor activities with his wife and children.
